To celebrate Carers Week, we’re introducing some of our fantastic volunteers that help keep CoWL running! Today we’re talking to Sharon, who helps facilitate our evening social group.
How long have you volunteered with CoWL?
I believe from 2020 / 2021
What does a session of volunteering look like for you?
I usually do the evening social group and they are a mixed bunch but we always seem to have a good time no matter what we are doing. I tend to make tea and coffee and make sure they have what they need unless Ruth is on holiday and I run the session which means I spend time chatting with each of the group.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and seeing people who would not ordinarily manage to get out and enjoy the activities and social setting.
It is also so different and much more relaxed than my day-to-day job, which I find very relaxing.
What would you say to someone interested in volunteering?
I would definitely encourage people to volunteer if they can you actually get more out of volunteering than you put in I think.
If you would like to become a volunteer for Carers of West Lothian, please get in touch! We have a wide range of opportunities available, and can find anything to fit your skillset.
