Provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

to Unpaid Carers and Personal Assistants (PAs) in West Lothian

If you are an unpaid carer or a PA providing personal care, West Lothian Health & Social Care Partnership is working with Carers of West Lothian to make PPE available to you. If you or the person you care for is in the shielded category, or if you normally use PPE in your caring role but are struggling to get it from your usual supplier, PPE is available to protect you or the person you are looking after.

To check whether you are eligible and to place an order, please contact Carers of West Lothian on 01506 448 000.
Guidance on a range of issues including PPE for unpaid carers and PAs is available on the Scottish Government website at www.gov.scot/publications

Emergency Planning

There’s no time like the present to prepare for the future!

The current situation with COVID-19 highlights how important it is to have an emergency plan in place as many carers are worried they may not be able to provide care should they become unwell.

An emergency plan is a plan you make for the care of an adult or a child in case of emergencies. It makes provisions for times when you are unable to fulfil your caring role, and details the practical arrangements for short-term, unplanned periods.

Emergency planning is relevant to all carers, irrespective of the age of the carer, the age of the person they care for or the health needs or disability the cared-for person has.

We have Emergency Plan templates that were developed by Enable to support you though the process. Our support staff can help you with this or you can ask us to email you one to complete at home with the person you care for and family.

Emergency plans can be completed by adult and young carers.
