We are excited to announce that our Carer Positive Employer status has been upgraded to exemplary!
Carer Positive is a Scottish Government funded scheme developed to raise awareness of the challenges that working carers face, and encourage employers to take measures to understand these hardships. There are three levels to the scheme, engaged, established and our new level of exemplary.
It is believed that 1 in 8 working people are carers, and with Scotland’s ageing population, this number will continue to grow. Employers need to recognise this and help these carers reach a healthy balance of working, alongside their caring duties. The benefits of supporting carers within a workplace can be seen on both the employee and employer sides. Many carers who leave their employment role are at the peak of their career and hold valuable skills and positions that can be hard to replace. If you would like to find out more about carer positive, visit their website.
Our organisation has been recognised as exemplary and we work hard to retain and support working carers in our staff team, by listening to their needs and using this to shape our workplace policies. We are also looking to reach out to other employers, to promote the scheme and the importance of supporting working carers and will be holding an Employers Event with Carer Positive in Livingston in February; more news on this will be released next month.
We would love to help more businesses and organisations within West Lothian become Carer Positive accredited. If you would be interested in learning more, please give us a call on 01506 44800 or email office@carers-westlothian.com and we will be happy to help!
