Carers, Caring and You

Carer Awareness Training for Professionals

This course is aimed at social service and health staff, but also for any professional coming into contact with unpaid carers as part of their work. It is designed to enable participants to gain an insight into the nature and scale of unpaid caring, and an understanding of the life changes (both emotional and practical) that result from the caring role.

Through the exercises, discussion and groupwork participants will:

  • Be able to distinguish between paid and unpaid caring.
  • Have identified what experiences and opportunities are valued and why.
  • Have gained an understanding of the life changes resulting from the caring role.
  • Have gained a greater understanding of the complexities and realities of a carer's life.
